Maulidi Festival:
It is a month-long celebration organized by religious leaders and the National Museum of Kenya.
Lamu is recognized as a World Heritage site. The Maulidi Festival is a four-day Islamic celebration conducted during the third month of the Muslim calendar to commemorate the birth of Prophet Mohammed. This festival attracts numerous visitors from both within the Lamu Archipelago and beyond, uniting them to witness Quranic recitals competitions, Donkey races, Dhow races, Swimming races, and various other games held for entertainment.
On the final day of the festival, in the evening just before sunset, there is a “zeffe” procession into town. Here, boys and elderly men join hands, dance, and sing together in a joyous celebration.
