We charge a small fee for each transaction so that we can provide small businesses with access to the technology required to process card payments, meaning they can make sales to more customers.

What’s more, half of all our profits go to carefully selected projects and charities which benefit our island community.

About New Vendor

You can make a payment to a new vendor provided they agree to accept payment via Explore Lamu and provided they provide you with the correct MPESA payment details and contact information.

To process payment to a new vendor you need permission to create an account for them. Take a profile picture of your vendor and complete the required information. When we receive your order we will then create their actual account, a registered vendor payment page and process their withdrawal to their MPESA account for them.

Please double check that your vendors details are correct before completing your payment.

Once you complete your payment we will place a hold on your credit card to the amount you have entered. Once we have confirmed the vendors details we will process the payment and pay your vendor.

FAQ

Explore Lamu is a UK based company. We  process your payment via Stripe who provide secure global payment infrastructure. We don’t store your payment information or share it with vendors.

Explore Lamu adds a small service fee and any associated tax to your total payment. This service fee enables us to provide support and our digital service to Lamu and enables us to raise funds for positive community projects. View service fee rates here.

Vendors earn 100% of each payment made to them. Your payment via Explore Lamu will include our Service Fees and Taxes which goes towards their payment transaction fees, local support and platform operating costs. es

Explore Lamu gives half of all its profits to local community projects and charities and our infrastructure supports local businesses by providing them with new sales channels. Every payment you make on our platform supports this initiative and contributes positively to our Island community.

Yes. Please feel free to negotiate your prices and come to your own agreement of sale for the goods or services you are buying. Explore Lamu is not a party to these agreements so please make sure you have complete acceptance and a witnessed agreement with your vendor before your process the payment.

No. Explore Lamu bears no responsibility for goods or services provided by vendors who use our system to accpet payments. Its is the Vendors sole responsibility to provide goods or services as agreed directly with you the client.

Yes. When you process a payment on Explore Lamu we place a hold on your credit card to the value of your total payment. You have 24 hrs to raise a complaint with us or request a refund on your payment before your transaction is completed. We will require proof that goods or services were not provided as agreed with the vendor, and will require the vendors acceptance of your claim. Where the vendor does not accept your claim you will need to escalate your claim to the village chief or local Lamu authorities. After 24 hours your payment will be processed to completion and is non refundable by Explore Lamu. After 24 hrs you would need to negotiate any refund or settlement with the vendor directly. If your claim is received and accepted within 24hrs of your payment your funds will immediately released back to your credit card. If your claim is not accepted you will have up to 7 days to gain acceptance or agreement from the vendor or local authorities before your payment is processed or released. 

Yes. We would love you get bet involved with our local projects and charities. View the local projects we support and engage with them directly. Local projects welcome donations and volunteers. 

Explore Lamu will provide you with a Business Card which links to your payment page. Simply show it to your client to accept payments by credit card. You can also take a screenshot of your payment code and share it from your phone. Remember to agree your price before completing payment. Order / payment confirmation will be set to you by email but you can always ask your client to show you proof of payment on their phones too.
