About Safari Doctors
Safari Doctors provides innovative, community-driven healthcare solutions that promote well-being for marginalised communities in Lamu, Kenya. Our team does this through mobile medical outreach to the last mile and a Community Health Worker model.
Safari Doctors: Empowering Communities with Innovative Healthcare Solutions
Welcome to Safari Doctors, an award-winning social enterprise proudly led by women. We’re dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare delivery for marginalized communities in Lamu County, Kenya. Our innovative approach brings vital services right to the doorstep of those in need, ensuring well-being for all.
Operating in the remote reaches of Lamu County, our focus is on serving indigenous communities scattered across the archipelago and the mainland near the Somalia border. These communities face significant challenges including insecurity, neglect, and remoteness, which often hinder access to essential healthcare services. At Safari Doctors, we’re committed to bridging this gap and improving health outcomes for all.
Discover Safari Doctors’ Impactful Initiatives
Embark on a journey with Safari Doctors as we navigate Kenya’s remote landscapes to deliver essential healthcare services. Our dedicated team conducts monthly mobile clinics, reaching up to 20 isolated villages both by boat and road. Alongside outpatient services at the Safari Doctors Medical Centre, we touch the lives of over 2,000 patients each month.
We believe that Kenya’s pursuit of Universal Health Coverage by 2030 hinges on innovative approaches, including mobile healthcare models and the involvement of youth. Through our Youth Health Ambassadors program, we empower young individuals to become Community Health Workers (CHWs) and catalysts for positive change in their communities.
Committed to holistic health, our Safari Vets program tends to hundreds of animals, providing free veterinary services during our outreach missions. We prioritize community education on animal welfare and zoonotic diseases, supported by our Safari Vets clinic, which conducts TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and vaccination campaigns.
In addition, we engage in civic education initiatives, empowering indigenous women to participate in County health budget processes and shape policies that impact their communities.
Our dedication to service was recognized in 2020 when Safari Doctors proudly received the SDGs in Action Solidarity Award for our unwavering efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
Empowering Marginalized Communities with Innovative Healthcare Solutions
Since 2015, our unwavering mission at Safari Doctors has been to pioneer innovative healthcare solutions driven by communities, aimed at enhancing the well-being of marginalized populations. Operating primarily within the archipelago and mainland regions near the Somalia border, we recognize the significant barriers—such as insecurity, neglect, and geographical remoteness—that hinder these communities’ access to essential healthcare services.
At Safari Doctors, we prioritize reaching the last mile in healthcare delivery.
We firmly believe that Kenya’s journey towards achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030 necessitates the adoption of a mobile healthcare model, rather than relying solely on static services. That’s why our dedicated team conducts monthly mobile clinics, traversing both land and water routes to serve up to 20 remote villages. Complemented by outpatient services provided at the Safari Doctors Medical Centre, our efforts enable us to directly impact 2,000 patients every month. Our comprehensive primary healthcare services include vaccinations and family planning, ensuring that essential medical care reaches those who need it most.
