Welcome to Peponi Hotel Lamu
Discover Peponi Hotel, a charming boutique retreat nestled on the idyllic island of Lamu in the Indian Ocean, just off the pristine North Kenyan coast. Founded by the Korschen family, whose serendipitous encounter with the old building in the 1960s marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey.
The Korschens, Aage ‘Lemmy’ and Wera, were former farmers from upcountry Kenya who found themselves seeking a new path after their land was acquired during the country’s independence. With Kenya deeply ingrained in their hearts and their three children – Lars, Hanne, and Nils – in tow, they embarked on a quest for a fresh vocation. Despite their efforts, the search proved futile, leading them to contemplate a move to Argentina to start anew.
However, fate intervened during their final holiday in Malindi. Aage, captivated by a lifelong fascination with the Lamu Archipelago, resolved to explore this enchanting coastal region before bidding farewell to Kenya. Thus, the seeds of Peponi Hotel were sown amidst the sands of Lamu, where the Korschens’ legacy of hospitality and adventure began.
