From single rooms and family suites to superior class-penthouses or even entire houses, Banana House has a wide variety of rooms suitable for different stays in Lamu.
All accommodation options have access to the swimming pool in our lush garden, which has an abundance of exotic bird life. Banana House is simply and tastefully furnished in traditional Swahili style. Sitting areas, day beds and hammocks are throughout the property. All our rooms have access to the houses’ dining and lounge areas.
The Wellness Penthouse Suite at Banana house is our largest accommodation option and has two en suite double rooms. It has large louver doors that create a feeling of sleeping outside. The sun terrace in this room is great for days under the sun, drinks at sunset and watching the moon rise in the evenings.

Yoga & Wellness Mind and body rejuvenation form part of our core here at Banana House. We offer various wellness opportunities for our guests and other visitors to Lamu to take part in. These include daily yoga classes, guided meditations and access to Natural Lamu’s Beauty Spa. It also helps that we set our entire property up to invite moments of quiet reflection and relaxation. For yoga classes there is no need to make a reservation.
We host Yoga Classes in our 70 m2 yoga hall that is built around a large acacia tree. It fits up to 25 people during yoga classes and has direct access to the garden.
Monika’s passion is Yoga, and she teaches Yoga With A Smile. Her style is gentle but strengthening. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living and International Association of Human Values, inspired Monika. She is also trained as a Yin Yoga teacher.
Kelly Alomba, trained with Monika and the Africa Yoga Project. Kelly is a gentle teacher who is strong & flexible and has a calm mind. He is an amazing teacher who has inspired many others to practice yoga.
Fred Gwanche, qualified Baptiste power yoga vinyasa teacher, Thai massage therapist, and Acro Yoga teacher brings many students to his classes.
All our teachers adapt their teaching to the attending students, making the classes accessible to beginners and more experienced yogis.
Natural Lamu has transformed the garden and ground floor of Sweet Banana House into a wonderful spa. There’s a constant welcoming breeze and natural sounds that allow you to drift away into deep relaxation. Natural Lamu only uses 100% organic products and offers a variety of massages, spa treatments, facials, skin rejuvenations, and waxing.
Our Community
Banana House & Wellness Centre is not just on Lamu island but part of the community in Shela village. The thought of the owners of Banana House has always been to give back to the community as much a possible. We can only grow together, so it is important for us that the people we work with are also happy. Our Bursary Fund The Banana House Bursary Fund supports our staff by raising funds for their children’s school fees. Any member of staff with a child in school or university can apply. The staff members pay a third of their school fees while a third comes from Banana House itself and a third through donations from guests.
Our Kitchen
Banana House uses mostly organic, and freshly harvested ingredients from local farmers, fishermen and our own organic farm.
Every day we serve you Home-made bread, jam, yoghurt, fruits, juices, pancakes or Swahili breakfast to start the day well.
Since we serve guests from all over the world, our chefs can tailor our menu to your dietary preferences. Speak to them or if you would like your food spicy, vegetarian, gluten-free etc during your stay.
We are known for our variety of vegetables, herbs used and mouth watering curries.
